Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone hosted a video conference on July 30 with Otto Heinrich Herzog, a renowned German artificial intelligence (AI) scientist, to discuss building the International CPS (Cyber Physical System) (Anhui) Innovation Research Institute in the zone.

Herzog, an academician at the German National Academy of Science and Engineering and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the development plan of the institute, and said that he would carry out in-depth cooperation with the Hefei high-tech zone in areas such as smart city, smart logistics and smart manufacturing development.

Lyu Changfu, deputy director of the administrative committee of the Hefei high-tech zone, said that the zone is actively introducing high-level talents from overseas and the local government plans to further promote the implementation of their cooperation project.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific and technological exchanges between China and foreign countries have been hindered. Such cross-border online cooperation promotion conferences have played an active role for the zone in promoting international cooperation and introducing experienced talent teams. The zone plans to promote international cooperation, work with all sides to advance cooperation, and strive to become a gathering place for high-level talents from home and abroad.

Academician Herzog is a representative pioneer and leader in the field of AI in Germany. Herzog has been dedicated to fostering extensive contacts and cooperation between China and Germany in the fields of science and technology, particularly in the field of AI, since he started teaching Chinese students in Germany in 1993.
